Boise Airport to Receive Nearly $1 Million in Grant Funding for Energy Efficiency Improvements to the Terminal

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced today that the Boise Airport’s funding request for two sustainability upgrades have been approved.

"This investment by the FAA will help increase energy efficiency in the terminal and reduce the airport’s dependency on natural gas,” said Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. “Both of these projects are critical pieces of our climate action plan, getting us one step closer to our goal of being carbon neutral by 2035."

A total of $960,000 has been awarded to fund two sustainability projects at the Boise Airport:

  • Investing in an energy efficient electric boiler for terminal heating needs, as well as improvements to the entire boiler infrastructure to help the system operate more efficiently.
  • Updating skylights in the terminal to prevent heat gains or losses throughout the year, making heating and cooling more efficient and providing a natural light source.

“The Boise Airport is grateful to be included in the first round of terminal improvement projects funded by the FAA,” said Airport Director Rebecca Hupp. “Modernizing our airport infrastructure to be less reliant on natural gas is an important step towards meeting our clean energy goals.”

The FAA announced over $968 million in fiscal year 2022 discretionary grants today. These grants will be issued under the newly established Airport Terminal Program (ATP), which was created through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The improvements funded at the Boise Airport were included among 90 other projects at 85 airports across the country to address the aging infrastructure of the nation’s airports.
