Give Back Before Taking Off - Airport Curbside Donation Drive Tomorrow

Boise Mayor Lauren McLean and Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp announced a community food drive on Monday to support Boise Airport employees affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown, including TSA employees, FAA air traffic controllers and SNAP recipients working at BOI.

Curbside donation will be accepted Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the arrivals (lower) curb, far east end. Community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and baby or pet essentials.

Those who can’t make it to the curbside drop-off can bring donations to collection boxes located near the airport’s entry doors on both the first and second floors of the airport. For convenience, the boxes are accessible 24 hours a day. All items collected will be available to employees who need them, using the honor system.

In addition to the food drive, local community organizations, businesses and individuals have stepped up to provide catered meals, grocery gift cards and other necessities to the airport’s federal employees who are affected by the government shutdown.

Director Hupp thanked the community for its generosity and emphasized the dedication of TSA employees and air traffic controllers for keeping the Boise Airport fully open and operational.

“We thank everyone for the generosity and support they have shown the Boise Airport community,” said Director Hupp. “Together, we can take care of one another and make a meaningful difference.”

Mayor McLean acknowledged the difficulties faced by federal employees who are working without pay, “including folks here in this building that serve our community every day to keep us safe,” she said.

“In the true Boise way, we're hearing concerns from community members who are either looking for resources for themselves, those they care about, or who are looking to help those who need it,” Mayor McLean said. “We are welcoming this effort by the Boise Airport to directly support our team members and colleagues.”
